At 1:00am, Shaun and Jayden attended a property on Sandal Road, Edmonton N18 after the homeowner discovered they were unable to lock their front door, leaving the property insecure overnight.

The customer's priority was simple: make the home safe before going to bed.

On arrival, Shaun and Jayden carried out a full assessment of the door and locking system. Their initial suspicion was that the issue could be caused by seasonal door movement or misalignment, as this is a common cause of locking problems during warmer weather.

To rule this out, the door was tested in the open position. The locking points operated correctly, confirming the door alignment was not the cause of the fault. Continued testing then revealed the latch becoming progressively weaker before eventually seizing completely.

Before closing the door, Shaun and Jayden considered the risk that the latch could seize with the door shut, potentially leaving the homeowner locked inside the property. Rather than taking that risk, further testing was carried out from the opposite side of the door. The outside operation continued to function correctly, helping isolate the fault to the failed gearbox rather than the door alignment, handles or cylinder.

As the correct replacement gearbox was not available at 1:00am, Shaun and Jayden discussed the options with the homeowner. Rather than leaving the faulty gearbox in place, they installed a temporary gearbox to restore safe operation overnight. Before leaving, they explained that while the temporary gearbox would safely secure the property, it could not engage all of the locking points within the multipoint locking system. This meant the homeowner could safely lock and use the door overnight, but the door would not have its full level of security until the correct gearbox was fitted.

The following day, Shaun and Jayden returned with the correct replacement gearbox. The temporary unit was removed, the homeowner's original handles were refitted, and the new gearbox was professionally installed. The complete multipoint locking system, including the upper and lower locking points, was fully restored and tested repeatedly by Shaun, Jayden and the homeowner to confirm smooth operation.

The homeowner confirmed the temporary repair had worked exactly as explained overnight, allowing the property to remain secure until the permanent repair was completed.

A homeowner contacted ASJ Locksmiths after becoming locked out of their property on St Andrews Road, Edmonton N9. Although they had a spare key available, it would not operate the lock because another key had been left in the inside of the euro cylinder.

Once inside, the lock was thoroughly tested from both the inside and outside to confirm it was operating correctly.
