Emergency 5-Lever Lock Replacement 

Shaun & Jayden attended a property on James Street, Enfield EN1 for one of our account customers after their tenant reported that the back door was no longer locking correctly.

The lock was very old and had previously been repaired by another locksmith, who had advised that if the problem returned, the lock would need replacing.

With the resident due to go away, our customer asked us to attend as an emergency so she wasn't left worrying about securing the property before leaving.

On inspection, the old 5-lever lock was clearly failing. The bolt would only retract after around 7–8 attempts, and both the existing lock and door were in poor condition.

We removed the faulty lock and installed a new replacement before thoroughly testing everything.

The resident can now lock and unlock her back door correctly on the first attempt, giving her one less thing to worry about before going away.

Shaun and Jayden attended a property on Lincoln Crescent, Enfield EN1 after the homeowner requested a replacement lock.

The existing lock was measured before we selected the replacement, allowing us to ensure the new lock was a better fit for the door.

Door Handle Repair

Shaun & Jayden attended a property on Elmer Close, Enfield EN2 after a homeowner experienced problems with his back door handle.

The handle wasn't returning to its normal position after being lifted. Although the door could still be opened and closed, the homeowner wanted the issue investigated before it potentially became worse.

We found that the handle spring cassette had broken.

The faulty spring cassettes were replaced and everything was thoroughly tested afterwards.

The top and bottom hooks of the multipoint locking mechanism were not fully retracting, regularly leaving the customer unable to open the door. Although the mechanism could be temporarily freed, it remained unreliable. To provide a permanent solution, the faulty multipoint locking mechanism was replaced and thoroughly tested, leaving the door operating smoothly every time.

Door Lock Repair 

Shaun and Jayden recently attended a property on Government Row in Enfield EN3 after the homeowner was unable to lock her door and believed the existing lock needed replacing.

Following our inspection, we established that there was actually nothing wrong with the lock.

The latch wasn't correctly engaging with the keep in the frame. We adjusted the door, tightened the hinge screws and made the necessary adjustments to allow the latch to engage correctly again.

The existing lock and door were then thoroughly tested and confirmed to be operating correctly.

No replacement parts were required.

Not every door that won't lock needs a new lock. Correctly identifying the underlying cause can avoid unnecessary parts and unnecessary expense.

Door Realignment 

Shaun and Jayden attended a property on Clydesdale, Enfield EN3 after the homeowner's door became increasingly difficult to lock.

The problem had been getting progressively worse until yesterday, when she became unable to lock the door at all.

Rather than forcing the handle and risking damage to the locking components, the homeowner decided to get the problem resolved.

Shaun and Jayden attended a property on Harkness, Waltham Cross, EN7 after the homeowner was unable to open the front door. On arrival, the bottom section of the multipoint locking mechanism had projected outside the frame while the top locking point remained engaged in the keep. After carefully retracting the mechanism and opening the door, we confirmed the mechanism itself was still in perfect working order. The fault was traced to the door being out of alignment. 4 Door Repairs 

Shaun and Jayden attended a property on Sterling Avenue in Waltham Cross EN8 to resolve four separate door issues.

Two south-facing external doors were no longer locking correctly. Both were adjusted and realigned, restoring their correct operation.

An internal door had suffered a complete latch failure, with the bolt falling off and the mechanism splitting open. The damaged latch was replaced.

Finally, a bathroom door handle that had come away from the door was repaired and secured.

All four doors were thoroughly tested and left working correctly.

We also showed the homeowners how to make the relevant adjustment themselves should the alignment issue return next summer.

 Emergency Lockout 

 Shaun and Jayden attended an evening lockout on Highbridge Street in Waltham Abbey EN9 after a resident had already spent over an hour waiting for another locksmith company to arrive.

With food still cooking inside her oven, the resident became increasingly concerned and contacted ASJ Locksmiths.

We received the call at 9:16pm, and by 9:30pm the resident's door was open.

Access was gained using non-destructive entry, with Shaun and Jayden opening the door within a matter of seconds once on site.

There was no damage to the existing lock and no replacement parts were required, allowing the resident to continue using her existing lock and keys normally.

 Door Realignment 

Shaun and Jayden attended a property on Third Avenue, Waltham Abbey EN9 today after the homeowner became unable to lock her door.

The homeowner explained that the problem had been getting progressively worse, until last night she could no longer lift the handle far enough to lock the door.

On inspection, the lock itself was completely fine. The actual problem was another alignment issue — the door had dropped quite badly, preventing the locking mechanism from engaging correctly when the door was closed.

Shaun and Jayden realigned the door and brought it back into the correct position.

After the adjustment, there was no longer any difficulty lifting the handle or locking the door. Everything was thoroughly tested and left working correctly.

Another example of why a door that becomes increasingly difficult to lock shouldn't be ignored. The lock isn't always the problem.
