🔵 Real Locksmiths. Real People. Real Jobs.
Shaun & Jayden attended a property on Swan Way, Enfield EN3 after homeowner Carlton contacted ASJ Locksmiths because he had lost the key to his back door and could no longer access his garden.
What initially sounded like a straightforward lost-key and locked-door job revealed something much more important when we inspected the door.
The existing cylinder was protruding excessively from the door. In fact, it's been a long time since we've attended a property where we've seen a cylinder protruding this far.
This wasn't simply an appearance issue. An incorrectly sized cylinder that projects excessively from the surrounding door furniture leaves more of the cylinder exposed and potentially vulnerable to physical attack.
Gaining Access and Correctly Measuring the Replacement Lock
Our first priority was getting Carlton's back door open so he could regain access to his garden.
Once access had been gained, we didn't simply remove the existing cylinder and replace it with another one of the same size.
The existing size was part of the problem.
We measured the door and hardware to determine the correct cylinder dimensions before selecting and installing the replacement.
The photograph from this genuine ASJ Locksmiths job shows the measurement being taken before installation.
Why Correct Lock Sizing Matters
A replacement euro cylinder shouldn't simply be chosen because it physically fits through the door.
The dimensions need to be appropriate for the thickness and configuration of the door and surrounding hardware.
Excessive cylinder projection can leave unnecessary material exposed outside the protective door furniture.
For Carlton's door, fitting the correctly sized replacement achieved two things:
- 🔑 Restored access after the original key was lost
- 🔐 Corrected the excessive projection of the previous cylinder
Once installed, Shaun & Jayden tested the new lock multiple times to make sure everything operated correctly.
We then asked Carlton to lock and unlock the door himself before we left. This is something we regularly do because we want the homeowner to be completely comfortable with the finished installation.
The result was a properly fitting lock, a working back door and, importantly for Carlton, access to his garden again.
Lost Your Keys or Concerned About the Fit of Your Lock?
If you've lost the keys to a UPVC or composite door in Enfield EN3, or you've noticed that your euro cylinder sticks out significantly from the handle or door furniture, it's worth having it assessed.
Replacing a cylinder isn't just about putting another lock into the same hole.
Correct sizing matters.
And as always, we'll only recommend and carry out the work that's actually required.
A massive thank you to Carlton for the 5-star Google review following the job. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
For a small family-run locksmith business, reviews and recommendations genuinely make a difference.
